Year in Review: 2014

January 2014
We started the year at Mom's house and ended January moving into the first rental house of the year. Rowan learned how to walk this month and Zane wrote his name for the first time.

February 2014

This month we settled into our new house and tried to make the most of it. Below are the boys on Valentine's day. I can't believe how Zane still has a bit of a baby face in this picture.
And of course this guy turned one on the 21st!
March 2014

I went back to work in March and missed these two faces dearly!
Zach and I went back to St. Louis for Adam's wedding.

April 2014

Easter at the farm ended with all of us getting sick.
Zane went to his first baseball game.

May 2014

Zane ran in his first Dude's Dash,
 we got fish again,
 and I turned thirty one.

June 2014

 Farm fun at Grandma's,
Zane started swimming lessons, and turned four years old.

July 2014

 All the joys of summer.

 August 2014

August brought the move to our second rental house of the year
and family vacation to Branson with the Wamser clan!

September 2014
 Zach turned thirty one,
these two got hitched at the end of the month,
and boy did we party!!

October 2014
October always brings post season baseball, which means little boys in lots of Cardinals gear.
This picture below is my favorite one of the boys all year.
Zane's heart birthday celebrations were lots of fun this year.

And of course Halloween fun went on all month.

November 2014

Grammie and Papa came to visit, we had our first snow, and of course there was lots of Thanksgiving fun as well!

 December 2014
December brought this face, lots of Christmas celebrations, and of course the return of our beloved Elf Gary. We ended our year headed to South East Missouri to celebrate Christmas with the Korenak side of the family.

It was a great year with lots of stress and change, but we have ended it more settled and more blessed than ever. Happy New Year to everyone, I can't wait to see what lies ahead for us in 2015.

Ten on Tuesday

1. Well another Christmas has come and gone and my house feels a little bit smaller now that it has been filled with more toys and of course a castle. I see simplifying/donating more toys in our near future. Everyone seems to be enjoying all their new stuff and sharing it pretty well with each other.

In addition to the castle we added some much needed hot dogs, marshmallows, and roasting sticks to our camping supplies.

2. We randomly had a snowy day on Saturday. I didn't know this was suppose to happen so it was a lovely surprise to wake up to in the morning. I headed to the gym in the snow storm, but hear the boys had fun playing in it while I was gone. Almost a white Christmas, right??

3. Sunday we had our annual Christmas Tea at Abbey's house. Mom wasn't able to come, which might have been a first, but a good time was had by all. There was lots of little kids, some I had never met before, but that's alright. We ate ourselves sick then came home to moan on the couch. Turns out I didn't get very far with the picture taking. But I did get this gem of Rowan shoving an entire frosted donut in his mouth, because that is the only way to eat them.

Lady M, our Ice Fairy hostess.
The boys and Maggie at the craft table.

4. We  head out tomorrow  Korenak Family Christmas visit to South East MO. Zane is very excited to see Shy, the dog. I am hoping Rowan warms up to her this visit as well. The boys have new headphones for movie watching in the car and we are trying to split it up into two days of driving this time to see if that works better. We shall see. So far packing seems quite overwhelming. I might just go to sleep and tackle it in the morning.

5. Have I mentioned that Rowan is one hundred and ten percent two years old already. He is throwing more and more irrational fits about absolutely nothing as of late. Full on, throw his body on the ground, screaming, crying, because I put his bowl of crackers on the couch, not the table, and other completely crazy things. Usually when he spirals into this form of irrationality he can only be comforted by Bobo, This ends adorably with a brother hug/cuddle and Zane getting him his blanket and his new love, Mickey. It would push me right over the edge if it didn't end so cutely.

Here we are cuddling after one of his many meltdowns as of late.
Rowan and Mickey eating a snack, at the table, of course!
6. Along with inching closer to two, Rowan is starting to talk much better. This is great for the most part, but it is always sad to see their made up words for things disappear into real vocabulary. This week we have started to say good bye to Rowan's beloved "amunga" and started to hear more and more "milk." This is almost as devastating as when Zane learned how to say elephant instead of feefent or robot instead of robebot. All part of growing up I guess.

7.Everyone around me is sick and I'm having a bit of a panic attack about it. This is my first real flu/rsv season on a general medicine floor and it is terrible. Everyone has flu or some sort of horrific respiratory virus that I desperately don't want to have. The long of the short of it is that my boys are in daycare so we will all inevitably have it at some point and I dread it. I have been doing so good not having the respiratory crud since I started my allergy shots I really want to keep that going. That being said I haven't got my allergy shot in two weeks, oops!

8. Apparently I have been talking into running a 5k portion of the April Memorial Bombing marathon. My siblings, husband, and sister in law will be running the other legs. I am less than enthused about running, but it should be a fun adventure together. Worst case I can walk three miles, right? Go team Blakley? I'll start designing t-shirts ASAP, I can do that for sure.

9.  Thanks to everyone who has sent us lovely Christmas cards this year. I so enjoying looking at them taped to my pantry door, a la my childhood. And Zane has really enjoyed there being real mail in the mailbox when he goes to get it in the afternoon.

10. Well lastly I want to wish everyone a safe, happy, New Year! Have fun celebrating. We will be in a hotel room, so I will have to burn my regrets the next time we go to the farm. But don't worry I have the standard Blakley New Year's Eve celebratory foods, Ginger Ale and Pretzels. This was always dad's staple for New Year's Eve. To be fair Dad would have found the Rold Golds way too classy! Happy 2015, there are going to be flying cars this year right??

Christmas 2014

Lets start with Christmas Eve. We spent the day cleaning our house, trying to pull it together after a week of chaos. I don't know if it was the early mass start time or our laziness, but either way we lost track of time and had to rush around like crazy people trying to pull ourselves together for the 4:00pm mass, that I was told we needed to be at least thirty minutes early to. We got there thirty minutes early and didn't even get a look in the church before we were escorted to the Great Hall where the mass was being live streamed on a big screen tv. This was a huge room full of plastic chairs, which also quickly filled up. At this point I realized we were in for craziness and I was right. I left with Rowan screaming, and I do mean blood curdling screaming, DADDY, by the first reading. Grandma was in the back and we played with her, before trying our hand at mass in the plastic chairs again. We were all in the back, wandering around, trying to pull it together, after the homily. We couldn't hear or see a thing, so we cut our loses and chalk it up as a lesson learned. Still slightly unclear on the lesson, but we tried.

Grandma came back to our house with us and assisted in family photo taking while we waited for the Richards clan to come over for dinner. I hear they not only made it through the entire mass, but also got to sit in the actual sanctuary! The matching Christmas shirts were hand me downs from the Richards boys and wonderfully adorable.

Rowan's face in the picture below is my favorite thing ever!!

We had a lovely dinner with the Richards, then the boys dawned their matching jammies and got ready for Santa. We set out our cookies, milk, apples for the reindeer, and some Savory hot chocolate in case Santa was cold. The boys said their final good byes to Gary and put him in Zane's stocking to wait for Santa. The boys were in their rooms at normal time but I have no idea when Zane actually fell asleep. We waited quite some time before beginning work on the boys castle, only to hear Zane talking in his room. Christmas Eve prep really makes me miss our basement.

Precious!

 See ya next year Gary!!

Everything was built, It's a Wonderful Life had been watched, and Zach and I headed to bed around 10:30, exhausted beyond belief, but ready for the excitement that awaited us in the morning.
It wasn't an earlier then normal morning, Zane got up at his normal time and saw the big surprise. He had a tough time waiting for brother, but managed to only look at a few stocking stuffers before Ro joined us.
What's a castle without a Knight costume, right??
Ro's music maker from the world trade store.
Santa knows  Rowan so well, he put peanut butter, his favorite thing, in his stocking. This meant we had to take a break from presents for a "buddoo sandwich."
Santa brought Zane new rain boots again this year. Rowan was trying them on for size, with peanut butter sandwich in hand, hysterical!
We took our time with presents and the boys played with whatever they got for awhile before moving onto the next present. Present opening lasted a solid hour, which was lovely, unrushed, and by the grace of God did not end with tears this year.
The boys got right to work coloring their castle. Luckily Santa had brought new markers and crayons for everyone.
I had bought this Perry the Platypus while we were in Branson and forgot all about it until I was hiding new presents. Zane loved it and proclaimed it his favorite gift this afternoon.
I would say the knight costume was his favorite, since we spent literally all day playing knights, princess, and all things castle related. A whole new world of imagination was opened up today and it was great fun! Zane also got the stuffed owl he asked Santa for, which led to googling the Snowy owl, which apparently is endangered, and gorgeous! He got a leap reader to help with his reading which took all day to get working, but we finally were successful. Handcuffs that have already broken, a little panda, two board games, and all sorts of other small things that he loved we also among us loot!
As for Rowan's favorite gift, that would have to go to the little grill, which I think actually was a present for Zane, but Rowan was crazy about it! He pushed this little grill, which does not have wheels, all around the house. He had to push it everywhere because he could not grill unless he was within arms reach of daddy. Below was when Daddy tried to eat dinner while Rowan wanted to grill. Don't worry, Ro brought the grill to him and continued to serve us all hot dogs while daddy ate. It was adorable. "I cooking mamma." "Pay with me, pay with me!" Christmas with a two year old is amazingly fun. I realized I bought him way too many presents. He would have been set with just he peanut butter, but loved all his new things as well. Two new trains, a vacuum cleaner, a big Mickey, a cookie jar, a gas station for his car, his own little knight sword and shield and lot of other little things.

Yes, we wore our jammies all day long!
 Mickey!!!

We debated doing something, or going somewhere, all day, but decided playing with our kids, giving them our undivided attention, all day, was the best thing imaginable. They never ran out of things to do, games to play, things to explore, or imaginary worlds to play in. Rowan swept with his vacuum cleaner, grilled, and jumped right into the sword fights. I got wonderful presents as well, two massage gift certificates, a new wallet, a necklace, a new work watch, and a home made frame that Zane made at school. Everyone napped and no one melted down, it was a house full of love and happiness all day. I could not have asked for a better Christmas. We are truly blessed beyond measure and I will cherish today for years to come!
