I am sure you all know by now that I got my first degree at The University of Oklahoma. I graduated in 2006, a year before a young Sam Bradford would became quarterback for my beloved Sooners. I was there to watch Adrianne Peterson play and there was an incident where I literally almost hit him with my car as he was running across the street ( that's a different story), but never actually saw Sam play in person, but did cheer him on from afar as he led my Sooners to some great seasons.
So you can imagine how excited I was when my fellow Sooner, Sammy B, was the first round draft pick for the St. Louis Rams last year. I am pretty sure since we both went to OU and both subsequently moved to St. Louis we are basically best friends. I tell people this all the time and they laugh, but I mean we live pretty much parrelle lives, minus him being a bizillionaire and me not being a professional football player.
So I know what you are thinking, 'Audra why are you telling a random story about Sam Bradford when it isn't even football season.' Well here is why, it leads to the random story of the day which I find rather hysterical.
Here goes...
Yesterday, was a pretty slow day at work so I had time to talk to the head of HR when he came around our floor asking if there were any cute patients who would like to be in a video that they would be sending to Sam Bradford to try to to get him to do PSAs for Children's. They are hoping to get him to talk about the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts. I promptly said "Sammy, we went to college together" and proceeded to talk about how we are basically best friends, like I do every time I talk to anyone from St. Louis about Sam Bradford. This is just barely stretching the truth, since technically I wasn't at OU at the same time that he was, but we went to the same school so obviously we know each other. The HR guy ate this conversation up, asking me if we had hand signals, if we were in classes together, he wanted to know what a sooner was, and took my information down so he could come back the next day and put me in a video. I, in no way, thought that this would actually happen and went on with my day.
Skip forward to today at work when the head of SLCH marketing shows up on my floor with a camera crew for my 'shoot.' It was all I could do to keep a straight face as the lady asked me if there were any sort of hand signs I could do, like hook 'em horns, and as she asked me what exactly a boomer was. I promptly told her that our hand sign is down with the long horns, which I was pretty sure wasn't very professional, so I told her that I would just say Boomer Sooner at the end of my speech. I proceeded to make up some sort of speech to say, completely off the cuff, to Sam about how he should support kids wearing helmets and seat belts. I ended my speech with a rousing BOOMER SOONER, which I am pretty sure the marketing person wasn't sure about because she asked me, very concerned, 'is he going to know what that means?' I replied, " Oh yeah, Sammy will totally know what the means, don't worry."
None of the cute patients on the floor wanted to be part of this video, so I might be the only person on the trying to get Sam to support helmet and seat belt safety. That doesn't bode well for Sammy doing the PSAs. Either way, it led to a very entertaining day at work and a great Random Story of the Day!!

Ten on Tuesday
1. I had to work today. One day off after working two days in the row just isn't enough of a break. I didn't even come close to getting everything done that I needed to do yesterday. Oh well, after tomorrow I'm off for four days. Hooray!!
2. This weekend at work wasn't bad though. We started the celebration of Becky's wedding week. Congrats Becky, enjoy your wedding week! Relax and soak in all the fun!!! I am super excited about going to her wedding on Saturday, I have a new outfit and am ready for a night out.
3. While I was at work Zach and Zane installed our backyard sprinkler system. I am told that it is awesome and from the brief demo I got of it yesterday it does appear to be pretty cool. Right now the yard is a little dug up but there is nothing that Zach loves to do more than plant grass so I am sure it will be filled in and looking great in no time.
4. All the bulbs are in full bloom around town. I could have sworn I had some tulips as well as daffodils last year but none of them came back this year. I will have to plant tulips this fall for sure. However, there are beautiful ones on Children's campus which I am enjoying.
5. Our seeds and onions are coming up. We had to hurry and put our fence up around the outside of the bed because squirrels were digging holes in the garden and stealing my onions. Have I mentioned how much I hate squirrels. They are useless and enrage me!!!
6. Zane follows us around the house now. It is the cutest thing ever. If I go to the kitchen to get a drink Zane follows close behind, often times saying "mama", and the best part is when he gets close to the door and peers around the corner. Love it!
7. Zach and I have started to look at ways to save money/tighten up the budget. I have come up with a few things, not huge savings, but a little bit here and there. We are currently researching how to save money on our car/home insurance, cellphones, and cable. It is just going to take a little time and persistence.Hopefully it will make some sort of a difference.
8. As part of my money saving kick I canceled my weight watchers subscription ( I wasn't really using it) and downloaded a calorie counter app on my phone. It calculates how many calories you need for your weight and how much exercise you do to loose weight. The best part is that you can scan the bar codes on your foods and it will look up the nutritional information for that food. I have only done it for one day and it went well. If nothing else it makes me be more aware of what I'm eating.
9. I want to take Zane to the zoo really bad. We are going to try to go this weekend at some point, but I hear there are going to be 'below average' temperatures. Hopefully not too cold or rainy so we can get out and about.
10. Last, but not least, I would like to officially welcome my best friend, and my son's God mother, Anna into the 21st century. Today she officially got the internet at her house. She has lived in her current house for I think two years without a computer or the internet. This is completely mind blowing to me and I am super excited that she is such a modern day woman now. Congrats Anna!!!

Productive Day
This morning Zach headed off to Columbia, MO to do a little work today and then take his big test tomorrow. This means that Zane and I are here by ourselves for the next two days. Luckily I am off work so we aren't having any daycare issues, just having some quality time together.
I was determined to get things done today, so after Zane's first little nap we headed to the dreaded mall to find a dress for Becky's wedding. I found a little black dress, I was hoping for something springy, but no such luck. Zane was a big trooper shopping for dresses with Mommy. He lost it just a little bit towards the end and managed to spill water, from what I thought was a non-spill sippy cup, all over himself. He pulled himself together and we had a lovely lunch, just the two of us, at McCalister's Deli. It was the first time I had actually bought him his own food, needless to say he loved his mac and cheese and apple sauce. He tried his teddy grams, but was not a fan!
While Zane took his second nap of the day I finally put up my Easter decorations. I could have sworn I had some sort of spring/easter words to decorate with, like "Happy Easter" in wooden letters, but turns out I don't. I know, how can that be, I have a sign for every other holiday. I am tempted to go to Hobby Lobby tomorrow, but going to try to resist. I did realize that I have a lot of very cute round table clothe that are useless now that we have a big table. It is very springy around here now with eggs galore.
When Zane woke up we headed downstairs so Zane could explore while I worked on his scrapbook. He is such a curious little guy and I'm starting to see signs of him really remembering where/what things are. This is cute sometimes, like when he looks for his jumperoo, then crawls too it quickly and tries to stand up by it. However, when he finds something that he shouldn't be playing with ( today it was the internet box and the air conditioner vent ) no amount of distractions or blockades will keep him from them. Here are the results of my scrapbooking today. I did Zane's 9 month page, his 9 month face for the faces page, and my new favorite page of Zane and Zach. I used my Silhouette to cute out the letters, I think it turned out pretty great.
During Zane's last nap I did 45 minutes of the 1.5hr of P90X Yoga, which is stupidly difficult. However, I did my best and forgot the rest and luckily Zane slept for an hour so I got to work out and shower, no problem, what a blessing. This evening Zane did wonderful with dinner and night time, which is amazing since he has been having some rough nights recently. Now I am blogging, pulling my house back together, and sending love and support to my husband. I can feel him being nervous and I am terribly nervous for him as well. I guess I will just send up some prayers from now until tomorrow at 5pm when it will all over. Love you Zach, Zane and I missed you today!
* I tried to take a picture of Zane and I together today, but I'm pretty sure it is humanly impossible to take a picture of yourself and a 9 month old.

Ten on Tuesday
1. This weekend was beautiful, though unnecessarily windy, so I finally got my seeds and onion bulbs planted. I ended up planting carrots, beets, radishes ( with the carrots per mom's advise), and a lettuce mix all with seeds. I planted onion bulbs because the store I was at didn't have green onions to plant. I wanted to plant garlic but the lady at the nursery told me that it is generally planted in the fall here, which could explain why it didn't grow last year. I wanted to looked around the nursery more, but they didn't have shopping carts and I didn't have a stroller so I was hauling my 22 lb kiddo around, trying to keep him from literally eating poison, so we weren't there long.
2. Sunday was borderline too hot to have Zane outside, yes it was snowing the week before. But we set up the big umbrella to shield him from the sun and some of the crazy wind. I put sunscreen all over him, including in his white hair, which was a huge mess, but needed. I think Zane needs to start enjoying baseball hats to keep his little head out of the sun. We were only outside for maybe 15 minutes and then he started to get some rosy cheek and needed to come have a big sippy cup of water. He seemed to have fun while we were out though!
3. Zach is studying hard for his test Friday. He is taking off tomorrow to study, heads to Columbia Thursday to stay the night, and then Friday is the big day. Send some prayers his way, I'm sure he will do great.
4. My work has been utterly depressing as of late. I cannot believe how much harder it is now that I have my own child. Everyone who had kids told me it was going to be 100% harder once I had kids. At the time I just couldn't imagine how it could get harder or more depressing. However, once you have your own baby, not to mention once you have see your own baby intubated and on a ventilator ( my personal worst fear imaginable), you can't help but imagine every child as your baby. The 'what if' game strikes again with 'what if my baby is born with a massive brain tumor' or what if my 16 year old doesn't wear a seat beat and is in a horrible car wreck. Needless to say I am unbelievably grateful that my child ONLY has a congenital heart defect, we are so blessed.
5. So of course I am very excited about having the next three days off from work. I have a lot I need to do, mainly going to buy something to wear to Becky's wedding next weekend, but really I just want to play with my baby. I hate going shopping let a lone with a 9 month old, it should be interesting. But I have to look cute for Becky's wedding. In good news I have finally secured a baby sitter for the wedding, it was a challenge as most everyone I know is going to there, but I made it happen. Thanks Catie!
6. I have a cold yet again. I tried to convince myself over the weekend that it was allergies, but it has turned into the runny nose, congestion, cough, tight chest situation that it always is. I went to the doctor about it last time I had it, and have been taking my nasal spray religiously, but here I am hacking away again. So annoying!
7. Baseball season has started again. The Cards are not off to a great start, I think they are 1-3, but I'm happy baseball is back. It really makes it feel like spring/summer when there is a game on every day. I hope we make it to a ball game sometime this year. If only anyone wanted to watch my cute baby :)
8. I love the 50 recipes booklet that comes in my Food Network Magazine. Last month it was 50 different smoothies, one month it was 50 different hamburger recipes, and this month it is 50 different tea sandwiches, how fun!
9. I have not been eating very good the past week or so, I need to get back on the wagon but can't find any method that works well. Weight Watchers is annoying to do online and I can't seem to just have self control to not eat useless things. I need to work on a plan for this and have no motivation to eat good during a 12 hour day at work. I have continued to work out, though Zach has had to take a break due to travel and studying, so I don't think I have gained weight, but I haven't lost any in the past couple weeks either. Sigh....
10. We finally baby proofed the electrical outlets. We got the outlet face plates that have a spring loaded cover that goes over the outlet and then slides to the side we you plug something in. I think we have covered all the major outlets, now I should start working on clearing off all the bottom shelves and possibly getting some gates for the stairs.
*The weather is suppose to be wonderful this week, maybe spring has sprung, Happy Tuesday!

Week in review
I haven't blogged much over the past week since we were enjoying my mom's visit so I thought I would recap a little bit of the fun we had. Mom arrived last Saturday in a snow storm. It was actually a beautiful snow, with great big snow flakes which would have been perfect for snowman making. Here are my beautiful spring flowers covered in snow, so silly.
So since it was obvious that we weren't going to be planting garden, mom and I headed to Hobby Lobby to "get a puzzle" but ended up leaving with new scrapbooking supplies for me. Don't worry we got puzzles at Target later, so we did get puzzle.
We spent our weekend watching all of Zane's new tricks, and there are many new tricks. Zane is all over the house now. He can pull down his toy basket, open drawers, shut his fingers in said drawer, he is trying to stand up, pulling things off the coffee table, clapping ( this is fun development), eating like crazy, throwing things, and so much more. He is such a little boy and I think mom thoroughly enjoyed watching him play. How could you not? Grandma got him a new toy which he loves, here he is playing with his new 'tool bench' this morning.
We also spent a lot of time researching Nova Scotia, plane tickets, rental cars, whale watching tours, and other attractions in the country. If anyone has ideas on how to get cheap rental cars please let me know, I have no ideas and so far it seems extremely expensive. We went back and forth on what our actual plan was going to be, but I think we have it figured out now and I am super excited.
I was working my normal schedule last week so mom got to watch Zane on Monday and Thursday. Mom headed home early Friday morning and I went to work. Work last week was very emotionally draining, all sorts of depressing things happening, so I was completely exhausted by Friday night. Zach went down to S.E.M.O. Friday for his Dad's retirement party, which I hear was tons of fun. I wish I could have gone. They had a surprise fish fry/retirement party for his dad complete with appearances from two of the Vice Presidents of the company. Congrats again Mike!
Saturday I pulled the house back together and played with Zane, while Zach studied for his big test next friday. Then in the evening Zach and I went to the Bob Costas Benefit for Cardinal Glennon's cancer center at The Fox. Cardinal Glennon is the other Children's hospital in town, but I support childhood cancer and I definitely support Conan O'Brian. We ate dinner with my friend Michelle and her husband before the show. It was lots of fun and Zach and I managed to not scare them too much with our parenthood horror stories. They are due to be parent's anytime and I can't wait to meet their little man ( technically they don't know if it is a boy or a girl, but I did the Indian trick on her so I know it's a boy).
Conan was good, though not what I thought he was going to be. It was obvious that he had spent a lot of time Googling St. Louis and made his hour long set out of the tid bits he had found, i.e. toasted ravioli, The Cardinals rough start to the season, trying to keep Albert, different famous people from here, and all the other basic St. Louis fun facts. Bob Costas was the MC, and yes he is a tiny tiny man, he looks even tinier standing next to Conan who is huge. While waiting for Faith Hill to come out he randomly talked to Tony LaRussa (the cardinals manager) and Ozzy Smith ( former cardinals player) to pass the time. This wasn't a planned thing so it involved Tony LaRussa and Ozzy Smith climbing on stage via a chair, random but entertaining I guess. By the time Faith Hill took the stage I was incredibly tired and incredibly hot, but Zach and I both enjoyed her performance more than we had expected. Turns out she has a great voice and was really singing, very fun. We left a little early to beat the traffic and relieve our baby sitter, a girl from work who had to work today, thanks Brigid for watching Zaney while we enjoyed a much needed night out!
Today's plan is to get my garden planted, finally. It is beautiful outside and it is suppose to rain this evening so when Zane wakes up from his nap we are off to the nursery while Zach continues to study. I will post a garden update as soon as I get something planted. Happy Weekend everyone!

Nova Scotia
I have had a couple questions regarding my Ten on Tuesday comment about going to Nova Scotia. Yes, mom and I are literally going to Nova Scotia, Canada. We will be getting to use our pass ports because you have to have them now to get into Canada. Last summer Mom and Dad had discussed going to Nova Scotia because mom has always wanted to go see the whales. I had talked about possibly going along as well, but now I'm the main side kick.
The reason behind this choice initially came when Mom and I were driving my belongings to Columbia, MO before I got married ( 5 years ago ). As a way to pass the time we learned all the State Nicknames, as listed in the big Rand Mcnally map. That tells you how long ago this was, we had a paper map for heavens sake. Anyway, while learning all the state nicknames, which was very entertaining, we also decided we needed to pick a meeting place in case of a major disaster or terrorist attack. I'm not disclosing the exact meeting place on the world wide web, but I will let you know that if our entire family disappears from America, you can start your search for us in Nova Scotia.
We had jokingly said that we would go check out said location in the summer of 2011, since by that point my first child would be about one year old. Well turns out that is exactly what happened! We are going to watch the whales and I am planning on sitting by the sea and reading a book, one of my absolute favorite pass times. We still have a few things we need to nail down, mainly our vacation theme and T-shirt design, i.e. our trip to Ireland was The Hope Deferred Tour, and yes we had green, St. Patrick's Day t-shirts. We tossed around some themes last night, but I am out of practice so haven't come up with one I love yet.
That is reasoning behind the Nova Scotia trip, it should be tons of fun! We will both be able to mark off "see whales in the wild" from our goals lists. Fantastic!

Ten on Tuesday
1. Mom arrived in snowy St. Louis Saturday. It snowed all day and has been gloomy and cold ever since. So there has been no garden planting or strolling through the botanical gardens. Instead we have watched Zane roll all over the house, causing great destruction. We have also made great strides on our Nova Scotia trip planning.
2. Mom and I are going to Nova Scotia at the end of July to go whale watching and relax by the sea. Today we booked plane tickets, a rental car, and a bed and breakfast right by the ocean, I can't wait. We aren't really sure what we are going to do once we get to Halifax, but I am sure we will come up with some great ideas between now and July.
3. Over the past week Zane has become 100% more destructive and mobile. Part of this, I'm sure, is because he is feeling better than he has in a long time. We are done with his antibiotics, his little cough is pretty much gone, and he doesn't have any other illnesses ( knock on wood). This means that he is crawling all over the house, pulling things off the coffee table, pulling baskets over on himself, trying to pull up on things, and eating things off the floor, all the classic 9 month old activities. I lay in bed at night contemplating how he will get his first skull fracture, that' the neuro nurse in me. I need to to start putting away all the breakable things that are within his reach. Sigh....
4. Also over the past week Zane has decided that he thinks his bedtime should be pushed back two hours, from 7:30 to 9:30. This is nice because I was able to see him yesterday after work, but it is much harder to get him convinced he needs to go to sleep. He just can't stop moving, so it becomes a bit of a battle. In good news he has been sleeping from 9:30 to 7:00 which is great.
5. Today mom, Zane, and I had Italian food for lunch, which meant that Zane got his first taste of the famous St. Louis toasted ravioli. Needless to say he loved the toasted ravs and my cheese tortellini. He is an eating champ these days and has done great the few times we've gone to restaurants lately.
6. Zane now has three teeth. His bottom teeth and one of his top teeth are officially in. The second top tooth will be here soon. His little smile looks so different now, adorable, but different.
7. Zach is busy studying for his test next week, in between his long trips for work. He told me today that he will be driving at least 3.5 hours each day all week. Not exactly the relaxing week that he needs before his test, but he is powering through. It has been great to have mom here this week to help watch Zane while Zach is studying or out of town. He will be staying over night in Peoria, IL tomorrow.
8. This week is my father in law's last week of work at Caterpillar after 30 some odd years. He officially retires Friday. Happy retirement Mike!!! This means you guys can come up and see Zaney anytime.
9. Zach and I are going to see Conan O'Brian this Saturday at The Fox Theatre with my friend Michelle. That is if Michelle doesn't go into labor first. Keep that baby in there a little bit longer Michelle, we have to see Conan.
10. I am in the process of learning how to use the Silhouette cutting machine that I'm boring from Able. I have a lot of ideas of things I want to do, but I have yet to figure out how it really works or how to down load new designs. My first order of business is to make a Happy Birthday sign for Zane. I feel like it is probably going to take me the entire 3 months until his birthday to get this done, but it is going to be super cute.
Sigh....
