Turtle Bites and Summer Time Fun

As I suspected as soon as the rains pasted it was immediately ninety five degrees outside, with the added bonus of lots of humidity from a month of rain. However, after being stuck inside for the past three months we didn't let any of that bother us. As soon as we got back from farm camp we went on our own little nature hunt on the way to the park. We found a big, Red Eared Slider turtle sitting by the stop sign. We took him back to our house, gave him a bath, and quickly realized that we were going to need a bigger turtle bucket.

Nelly 2.0 quickly got a nice bath and a breakfast of grass.
Nelly was a bit of fighter from the beginning, biting off the end of Zane's stick.

When it came time to transfer the turtle to his new home Zane got a little bit too over zealous and stuck his finger into the turtles face. This did not end well. It ended with a rather large turtle hanging from Zane's middle finger and Zane completely freaking out. Screaming, confident that the turtle was eating his finger. I had mixed reaction of complete hysterical laughter and concerns about what kind of diseases turtles could transmit. There was a lot of blood and Zane was sure that the turtle had eaten his finger. "Mamma, I don't want to go to the towers, but how are we going to sew my finger back on??" So funny and so sad all at the same time. Have you ever kicked a turtle off your son's finger, I have, you will!!

Once we got the turtle bite bandaged up we headed back to the park. The boys desperately wanted to play on the playground, but once we got there this is what there ended up doing. Sitting on the picnic table and looked at all their nature books from Zane's very important nature backpack.

When Daddy got home, and we had gotten a good look at the beast that nearly ate Zane's finger, we decided to set him free by beside the pond.
Nelly 2.0, as Zane had named him, eventually slid back into the pond. I'm sure we will meet again.

Yesterday our summer fun started with a walk/run through the Mitch Park Trails. I was pushing around seventy five pounds of boy, up and down the hilly paths, because Rowan had hand foot and mouth so couldn't be taken to childcare like our normal plans. To be honest I had no idea where the trails led or how exactly I was going to make my way back to my car, which led to a much longer/hotter workout than I had originally planned. Along the way we ran into a new playground that we had never seen before, which was lots of fun. Then we headed to the normal playground before a solid twenty minute walk back to the car. We were hot, tired, and sunburned by the end of it, but it was a great summer adventure.

After naps yesterday, in a moment of insanity where I forgot that it was already ninety five degrees outside, we decided to go try out Edmond's new splash pad. I envisioned maybe two or three other kids, like every other splash pad I've ever been too. Boy was I wrong. All of Edmond was splashing about while their parents sat in the blazing sun having heat strokes. Here is what the splash pad needs ASAP, some trees or shade for the parents to sit under. The kids had a blast though. Rowan, who wouldn't go into a sprinkler or a splash pad on a bet last year, ran right in, with no fear. They adorably stayed close to each other in the crowd of people. They would occasionally run over to say hi. Rowan would say "Mamma I'm wet!!" every time. So cute. I'm glad we went, even if I had a minor heat stroke. One thirty in the afternoon was probably a terrible idea.

Now that the rains have stopped we are also back to playing baseball, but sadly not in gorgeous May weather, but in blazing hot June weather. Also the rest of our games, after tonight, are at seven fifteen, which for three and four year olds is a complete disaster. Last night our seven fifteen game got started about twenty minutes late. This meant that we were playing baseball until eight thirty. Craziness! Zane seemed to have lots of fun though, so that's all I maters. Tonight's game was early and went quicker. Zane got an out when he was playing second base and a couple outs at home when he was playing pitcher. Only eight kids showed up for tonight's game so he also got a lot of at bats. I think if they ever practiced they could possibly figure out what was happening. After tonight's game snow cones were definitely a must!!

 Korenaki up to bat!
Rowan warmed up with Zane this evening and loved it!!
These past two games Zach tried to get the kids to slide into every base. Zane did a great job and even came home with quite a big bruise on his thigh, a sign of a great slide!
Meanwhile Rowan put rocks in his cup of water and had an absolute blast.
Nothing says summer time like snow cones in the evenings with rosie cheeked, blonde headed boys. Both are working on some nice tans and not to bad of sunburns after our two days in the sun. Yes, they did have sunscreen on for all our fun.

This blue eyed boy is still fighting a lingering sinus infection and had another fever this morning so we had to miss Charlotte's web at the Myriad Gardens this morning. We have gotten more antibiotics and are hoping to rally tomorrow morning. There is so much more summer fun ahead. I can't wait!!!!
