Zane has a house full of toys but prefers to play in his imagination. Sometimes toys play a roll, but usually it's all in his mind. There are a few favorite toys currently, Buzz and Woody probably being the top two. He still loves all his stuffed animals, often playing zoo, and organizing the whole bunch. I keep thinking he will be over them soon, but still loves them all, which I totally enjoy! The other toys in rotation, to a much lesser extent, are all the boy things you would imagine a three year old would love, trucks, helicopters, fire trucks, pirate ships, puzzles, books, and lots and lots of hats! He loves playing house or pretend with everyone having a different role to play. He still frequently cooks in his kitchen, but would much prefer to be actually cooking with mom or dad. He has grown to be quiet the helper in the kitchen, perfecting his stirring and sprinkling techniques. There have been a few minor burns this year, but he knows what is hot and what he can and cannot touch. Cooking with him has become enjoyable and not such a difficult task.
Zane is a big fan of all cooking, indoor, outdoor, real, and pretend.
Zane and Woody, best buds.
Our outings are not as frequent as they were before Rowan's arrival but we have made it to the zoo and the farm a couple times this spring/early summer. The logistics of outings are complicated by not only Rowan, and all our stuff, but the fact that Zane is potty trained now so I'm constantly trying to make sure there is a potty near by and trying to figure out how to get both boys in the bathroom can be tricky. This means usually we go with a friend or daddy to the zoo, but have gone to the farm and parks just the three of us. He is a very good listener when we are out and about, much more so than when we are at home. He holds my hand or sits in his stroller seat without complaint and, knock on wood, has never had a meltdown in public. I wish we could do more things and we probably will as time goes on, but for now there are a lot of days at home, which I know is boring and difficult for a little boy bursting with energy and dying to see new things.
First outing as a family of four. Zane was sad that he couldn't sit on my lap during the train ride, but did love showing his baby brother all the trains.
Zane's other favorite things would be movies and the iPad. He asks to play the iPad in the morning usually while I'm still trying to pull my life together and usually we watch a part of a movie in the afternoon for a rest. The only movies he will actually sit and watch all of are the Toy Story movies and Monsters Inc. Everything else he watches about 15 to 20 minutes of and then he is off doing other things while it's on in the background.
That's just the tip of the Zane iceberg. He has a vivid imagination, loves to sing, dance, tell stories, and laugh. Everyday is a new adventure with Zane and there is never a dull moment in our house.
